VISA REQUIREMENTS AND REGULATIONS
To participate on the CCUSA program and work in the USA, you need to obtain a J-1 visa. CCUSA will sponsor your visa, and is here to assist you through the entire application process. Below is some basic information on the J-1 visa.
THE J-1 VISA
- Once you apply and pay your CCUSA program fees, your job will be verified and if your employer meets all the visa regulations you will be issued a DS-2019 form, which will allow you to apply for the J-1 visa at your local US Consulate or Embassy.
- The J-1 visa allows you to work for the dates on your DS-2019 form (up to a maximum of four months) with a 30 day grace period afterward allocated for travel. You may not work during this time, and you must leave the U.S. by the end of the grace period.
- You will apply for the J-1 – Work and Travel Visa. This J-1 visa allows you to work in most jobs except domestic help positions in private homes ( maid, nanny, etc), in door to door sales that require you to invest your own money in inventory, in positions that are substantially commission-based and thus do not guarantee a minimum wage for all hours worked, in jobs that require licensing under US laws ( such as in the medical profession, lawyers, etc), adult entertainment industry jobs, as a pedicab or rolling chair driver or operator, as an operator of vehicles or vessels that carry passangers for hire and/or for which commercial driver's license is required, in any position related to clinical care that involves patient contact, as a crew member on ships or airplanes or as an airplane pilot.
- The J1 visa cannot be extended.
- To be eligible for this visa you must be enrolled as a full-time university student. Your J-1 visa dates will fall within your University Summer Break dates.
- To obtain the J-1 visa, you must have a face-to-face interview with your local US Consulate or Embassy. CCUSA will advise and assist you with booking the interview and all required documents.
- You will be required to pay a Visa Application Fee at the time of your interview at your local US Consulate or Embassy.
- As a J-1 visa participant, you are expected to return home and share your experience of the American culture with friends and family members.
- You are expected to share your culture with Americans, helping them increase their knowledge regarding places and people different from themselves. Please be aware of this responsibility at all times.
